The first edition, primarily focused on manufacturing and based on a military quality standard.
ISO 9001:1994
This revision introduced changes to improve control of design and development and provided other clarifications. It also slightly modified the roles of ISO 9002 and 9003 (variations with different scopes).
ISO 9001:2000
This revision aimed to clarify issues raised during the application of the 1994 version and emphasized process orientation.
ISO 9001:2008
This revision further elaborated on process approach and added requirements for continual improvement
ISO 9001:2015
The latest version, significantly more flexible and process-oriented than its predecessors. It focuses on risk-based thinking, context of the organization, and continual improvement through the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle.
ISO 9001:2026
t's important to note that a new revision, ISO 9001:2026, is currently under development. While the exact changes are still unknown, it's expected to further focus on organizational context, risk management, and resilience
